A tourist in Yerevan has a phone, a few days, and no local friends to ask. They decide where to eat, which tour to take or where to rent a car in minutes, mostly through their phone. Marketing to tourists in Armenia is less about big campaigns and more about being findable and understandable at that moment.
Here is where tourists actually look and what a small business can do about each channel.
Where tourists find places
| Channel | What tourists do there | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Maps | Search "restaurant", "wine bar", "tour" near them | Complete listing with photos, hours, link, English name |
| Search engines | Search in their language: "best khorovats Yerevan", "Garni Geghard tour" | Page in that language with prices and details |
| Review platforms | Compare ratings before choosing | Profile, real reviews, replies |
| Hotels and guest houses | Ask reception or read the welcome message | Partnerships, printed card, link |
| Guides and tour operators | Follow guide's recommendations | Relationships, group offers |
| Travel chats and channels | Ask "where to eat in Yerevan?" in Telegram groups | A clear page people can share |
| Search places and hashtags, check photos | Real photos, location tag, link to the site |
1. Maps come first
For restaurants, cafes, wineries, shops and services near tourist areas, the map listing is the main entry point. Check:
- Name in Latin letters as well as Armenian.
- Correct pin; many places in Yerevan are in courtyards.
- Photos of the entrance from the street, the interior and the main products.
- Hours, including holidays.
- Website link that opens an English page.
- Replies to reviews in the reviewer's language.
Our guide to Google Business Profile in Armenia walks through the setup.
2. A page in their language
A tourist who cannot read your menu or prices often moves on. You do not need a huge site. One clear page in English (and Russian, if you get visitors from Russia and CIS countries) with:
- what you offer, in plain words;
- prices in AMD, optionally with approximate USD;
- opening hours and how to get there, with a landmark;
- whether you accept cards;
- a messenger button.
How to organize several language versions without mistakes is explained in multilingual website in Armenia.
3. Messengers they actually use
Visitors from Europe, the Middle East and the US mostly use WhatsApp. Visitors from Russia and relocants use Telegram. Diaspora visitors use both, plus Viber. Show at least two buttons side by side. A tourist will not call a local number from a foreign SIM.
4. Reviews and recommendations
Tourists trust other travelers. Ask satisfied visitors to leave a review on maps or review platforms; a small card at the table or checkout with a QR code helps. Reply to every review, including critical ones, calmly and in the same language.
5. Partnerships with hotels and guides
Hotels, guest houses and guides recommend places every day. Offer them something simple: a printed card with your QR code, a page they can link in their welcome message, a group menu or a guide-friendly booking process. Track which partner sends guests with separate links.
6. Timing: plan by season
Tourist flow in Armenia is seasonal. Late spring, summer and early autumn are busy; there is also a winter peak around New Year and in ski resorts. Update pages, photos and prices before the season starts, not in the middle of it. Wineries should prepare for harvest season, tour operators for May holidays.
What to prepare, by business type
| Business | Key page content for tourists |
|---|---|
| Restaurant or cafe | Menu with prices in English, reservations, cards accepted |
| Winery or wine bar | Tasting options, prices, how to get there, booking |
| Tour operator | Tour pages with route, duration, price, pickup point |
| Car rental | Car classes, deposit, airport pickup, documents |
| Hotel or guest house | Rooms, prices, transfer, directions |
| Shop or souvenir store | What you sell, hours, location, tax-free if available |
