The most common first message a service business gets is "how much?". If the honest answer is "it depends", the customer often leaves before asking what it depends on. A price calculator answers the question visually and turns curiosity into a request.
When a calculator works
It works when price is built from a few understandable parts:
- Number of items (sofas, chairs, rooms, pages).
- Size or type (small, medium, large).
- Extras (urgent delivery, stain treatment, design work).
We built one for restorefactory.am, a furniture cleaning service in Yerevan: the visitor picks what needs cleaning and sees the total before booking. The selection arrives with the request, so the team already knows the scope.
When it does not
- Every project is unique and needs inspection.
- Prices change daily.
- The calculation is so complex that the form becomes a questionnaire.
In those cases a short request form with "tell us what you need" works better. You can still show a price table with "from" prices on the site.
Designing a calculator people actually use
| Principle | Why |
|---|---|
| Three to five inputs maximum | Every extra field loses people |
| Buttons and sliders, not typing | Faster on a phone |
| Live total that updates instantly | Feels rewarding, keeps attention |
| "From" or a range when uncertain | Avoids disappointment later |
| One clear action under the total | "Get exact price" or "Book" |
Honesty about estimates
Say plainly what the number is: an estimate based on the options chosen. If the final price may differ, explain why (condition, access, materials). Customers accept ranges; they do not accept surprises.
What happens after the click
The visitor leaves a name and phone or Telegram. Your team receives a message like: "Request: 1 sofa, 2 chairs, stain treatment, estimate 18,000 dram." No back-and-forth to clarify the basics. If you use a CRM, a CRM integration can file it there automatically.
Languages and currency
Show prices in dram for local customers. If you serve foreign clients, you can show an approximate amount in dollars or euros as a note, with the rate clearly marked as indicative. Offer the calculator in Armenian, Russian and English if your clients use all three.
